AMNIA

How did you start and why?

Everything started when I was a little girl, about 6 years of age. I was always fascinated by nature. You could always find me barefoot exploring in the backyard/beach/woods(Mondi), looking for stones, digging holes, and just enjoy being free by myself.

Growing up, I started collecting lots of stones, shells and crystals. My mother would always surprise me by gifting me crystals. I remember I used to always get super excited when she took me crystal shopping. I was always curious, mischievous and sneaky as kid. I used to secretly go into my mother’s jewelry and started taking out all the gemstones from her rings and earrings so that I can add more gemstones & crystals to my collection.

I started going deeper and deeper into crystals and their properties as I grew up. I started researching the meanings of the stones and the energy that they give. This only made me fall more in love with crystals. I started to become more spiritual and grounded as well.

While attending The University of Aruba, I worked part-time for my aunt selling custom jewelry. Then I got the brilliant idea to merge my crystal obsession with the making of jewelry. I thought this is a way I can share with the world a piece of my jewelry that carries energetically properties. I felt I wanted the world to feel the energy that I feel when I am engaging with crystals. I started watching youtube videos to learn the basics of jewelry making, and implemented my own designs. I started making crystal jewelry ever since.

The significance behind AMNIA?

I actually came up with the name “AMNIA”. I wanted a name for my jewelry that started with an “A” and ends with an “A” just like my name.

I wanted my jewelry brand to be defined as something Crazy, Wild, Unique, Bold, Free, Down To Earth, and Positive just like me. I think we are all a bit crazy sometimes(In a good way), and that’s okay. All the best people in the world are a little bit crazy. So, I started searching for synonyms of the words “Crazy” and “Insane” and I found the word “Mania”. I took the word “MANIA” and I switched the two letters to convert it into AMNIA.

What do you think about supporting other small local businesses?

I think it is very important to support other small local businesses, in order to keep the economy of Aruba flowing and also to support people who really have a passion for their services or products that they offer. I also think local businesses offer lots of unique products and they are very detailed in their work. It is also an act of respect to support other local businesses, it is very challenging to start your own small business. Small local businesses provide the feeling that an actual person is behind all the work, someone who really cares about giving us a quality product or service.
